Can I have my baby baptized or dedicated?
Some churches practice a "baptism of confirmation" for children (infants). This ceremony is intended for the parents to promise to raise their child in the faith until the child is old enough to make his own personal confession of Christ. However, ithe question that must be asked in light of this practice is this: Are the children or infants that were confirmed ever asked to make their own personal decision for Christ and be baptized as a believer?
We do not find the practice of infant baptism or confirmation anywhere in the New Testament as a description of one responding to Christ. Therefore at Faith Christian we wait until our children are old enough to believe and understand the true meaning of baptism before we baptize them.
However we do encourage dedication of your children. Our dedication service is conducted at different times during the year and is an act by the parents to do the following:
-
They come asking the Lord’s blessing on their children’s lives.
-
They come vowing to the Lord to raise their child in the training and teaching of the Lord.
-
They value the commitment of the entire church to help them share the responsibility of raising them with a Godly world view.
